I have interviews with two firms on the same day on campus and the waiting room is the same for both. Is it advisable to schedule them real close to each other since that would be convenient? Or should I do one in the morning and one in the afternoon? Would the recruiters from both firms frown on seeing you twice in the same day obviously interviewing for the other firm? I get the feeling things could get awkward if they notice this but maybe this is common during recruiting season since so many firms are recruiting.

It isn’t a big deal. Recruiters know students interview at more than one firm.

Agreed. I work at an accounting firm. We are not naive, and they know what they could happen when they schedule all of their campus interviews for the same week. Unless they pledge to hire every applicant, they cannot reasonably expect applicants not to play the field. It’s almost like college admissions – most schools know that most applicants apply to at least one other school – unless they extract a binding commitment from you not to do so they can’t and won’t want to discriminate against you for it.

There are two reasons I would schedule interviews with some buffer time in between… First, if you schedule them back-to-back, the first one might run over time, which would obviously not look good for you when you walk in late to the other interview; Second, those on campus interviews can be taxing, and it is worth having a few minutes to catch your breath, adjust your tie and prepare for the next interview.

But as the two other people said, there is no expectation that you would only apply to one place. Half of on campus recruiting is the companies trying to convince you that it is worthwhile to work there (the other half is you convincing them to give you a second round interview).

I agree with chrisw.
