Accounting Major and school?

Hello. Recently, I had been spending a lot of time at the Business Major board, and over on those boards they seem to be stressing a major in Accounting, even for investment banking. So what are your opinions over hear on the investment banking boards? To me, it seems incredibly logical to major in accounting and minor in something such as finance or economics. With the incredible competition of investment banking, and the comparatively easy going job market of accounting, it seems like it would be an easy decision to major in accounting, but, I am not positive. So, is an accounting major a suitable major to go into investment banking, with a finance minor? And if so, would Ohio State or Duke be a good choice of colleges to go to? Thanks in advance.

I’ve been told that a lot of investment bankers wish that they took more accounting classes in college… and based off of the little bit of work that bankers do that I’ve seen, it looks like a good amount of accounting is involved…

As far as Duke and OSU, I’ve gathered that Duke is more of a target than OSU. Though OSU has something wish Fisher in the name that you have to be accepted to that usually has good placement for IBs

Sorry, but I was referring to undergraduate, since I know that Duke has a reputable undergraduate economics program while Ohio State has a reputable undergraduate accounting major.

UIUC has a great program, and obviously there are schools like Penn and NYU. Apparently SUNY Binghamton is a great feeder school for accounting as well and it’s dirt cheap

I was talking about undergrad… the Fisher thing is for undergrads. Either way, I think Duke would be more of a target.
