Accounting major in Chicago: UIC or Depaul?

I’ve been told countless of times they both are great schools with good accounting degrees in Chicago area. Financially, UIC makes sense since it has a cheaper in-state tuition. However, I work at a Starbucks in Chicago’s business area and was told by some customers who work upstairs that it is actually better to go to Depaul. One said that most people where she works at hire from Depaul.

Ultimately, I just want to go to a school that will get me ready for the real job and for companies to hire me as soon as I get out of college. I’m also planning to take a masters after my bachelors because I want to take the CPA board exam, but for that, I’m going to aim higher and actually work on getting admitted by University of Chicago or Northwestern University.

I’d also like to add that I am from Harold Washington College and is going to transfer for Fall 2017, if that makes a difference.

Help me decide, please!

Have you took a look at their employment surveys that they ask their graduates 6 months or a year afterwards? Just to see what sorts of salaries and employment percentages those schools get.

DePaul is better. UIC is garbage. Credits hardly transfer to UIC. Good luck redoing at least 80% of your coursework at UIC if you decide on that one. I do hope you lookup other universities as well. I applied to at least 5 universities when I transferred, and I made multiple visits to meet the faculty of each school.

Be sure to do applications and financial aid forms for multiple options. You can’t compare prices until you’ve been accepted and gotten your aid packages.

I would agree overall DePaul is a better school, though UIC is not “garbage” if that’s all you can afford.
