Accounting major who needs clarification on transferring from a cc

Okay so I'm currently enrolled in a community college and I want to transfer to San Diego State University but I'm not quite sure about the whole process. Can someone please walk me through it? Also how would you rate SDSU for their accounting bs program? Should I just finish my general education then transfer(if they even let you transfer with a as/aa) or should I just get my 24 transferable credits then transfer? I'm going to CC to cut down on costs and I currently have a 3.3 gpa. I'm sorry but I'm just really confused and my counselor wasn't much help so I'm going to call SDSU in a few days but I thought I could ask better questions if I knew the process of transferring better. Thank you so much!

Look for an articulation agreement between your CC and SDSU. It basically spells out what classes you need to take that will transfer as a package to SDSU. The key part is as a package. So once you transfer you get to work on your major requirements.

The other option is to find classes that SDSU accepts as transfer, and do an individual, course by course transfer. Example: SDSU requires 2 english composition classes, ENG1101 and ENG1102. Those classes translate as ENG 101 and 102 at CC. So I need to take those courses.

It’s up to you what works best. If you don’t care about electives and just wanna go to your major I’d say do the package. Also, sometimes the schools will have a guaranteed transfer program, which means so long as you take a certain list of classes and get a certain grade/gpa than you can transfer without applying. That can be helpful.

Thank you very much.
