Hey so I don’t know what to do……I need HELP! I am a transfer student majoring in accounting with a gpa of 2.8. I switch my major at the last minute from comm to accounting.
So I did get accepted to CSUN as a communication major but I switch my major at the last minute when I realize I enjoy accounting more. They did allow me to change my major but I would have to be a pre-accountancy major. Which is fine but I really don’t know why I have to be a pre-accounting major. I don’t like the fact I would have to stay another year due to taking lower division classes. So I was wondering if anyone knows why?
Or I was planning on staying at my CC for another year and apply to other colleges hoping to get accepted, but I honestly don’t know what kind of schools that can accept me with my gpa and especially how it’s an impacted major.
I was planning on applying to San Diego State, UCSB (currently living in SB, might have a chance), CSUEB, USC, CSU Fullerton, or Pomona State
Either way it will be 3 years of extra schooling, but I honestly don’t know what to do, and maybe I can get some advice from someone.
I am not sure why they are calling it ’ pre-accounting’ major. There are some basic business classes that you have to take, because you are now in the business college of your school, not the humanities side. Its referred to as business core-- classes like microeconomics, business law, some math courses, Etc. All business majors will take these basic courses, accounting majors, finance majors, econ, marketing, and so on. Afterwards you will be able to take upper division coursed in your field of choice.
And I wouldn’t worry about taking an extra year. You need 150 credits to sit for the CPA exam, (five years) If you want to go that far. And you can take those extra 30 credits anyway you want. Some chose a masters and grad school, others add on a second major or minor, or you can just take 30 credits of fun classes. So don’t worry about the extra year, if you go for the CPA you would have to do it anyway. Best of luck.
I’m a current CSUN student also majoring in accounting. Any business related majors here at CSUN is quite impacted so it’s separated into two. Pre-Accountancy and Accountancy. Pre-Accountancy mainly consists of lower division courses and sets you up for the “GateWay Exam” which then determines whether or not you are proficient enough to continue onto the actual Accountancy major. In short it’s to weed out the unwanted for Business majors.
