Accounting Minor without a Major in Business Econ

I was thinking of minoring in accounting but majoring in something other than business. Will that lower my chances of getting an accounting job at a good firm such as the Big Four ?

If you want to work as an accountant for the Big 4 or any other public accounting form, wouldn’t it make more sense to major in accounting? lol

I don’t think anyone really cares about your minor. I recently dropped my finance minor because I wasn’t really learning anything new.

You will not get an internship in audit or tax without majoring in accounting. You may have a shot at advisory but even your chances there will be slim. Some people go for their Masters in Accounting after a non-accounting degree, however, I have not met, nor worked with anyone at the Big 4 who took that path.

What’s with all the Economics threads???

jhanley : I could not major in Business Administration becasue it only lets about 18 people transfer to the program. That is why I have to minor in accounting.

Focus on another career path if you can’t major in accounting. Big 4 won’t happen.

Depends on the school. For example, UCLA has a Biz/Econ major + accounting minor and we recruit heavily out of that program.
