Accounting Program Questions/Big 4 Aspirations

Hello all, I'm a rising sophomore at the University at Buffalo SUNY. I am a dual major in economics and accounting and would like to work for the big 4 upon graduating. With my dual major I will graduate with over 150 credits, thus meeting the 150 credit hour requirements for the NY State CPA exam. Is it worth taking the extra year for the MS in accounting that my school offers? Or should I save my money just start working after my fourth year?

I am also curious about the National Leadership Conferences that the Big 4 host each year. Considering I will soon be a sophomore(and may or may not take 5 years to finish) should I apply this upcoming winter for next summer? I don't have any internship experience yet, but I do have a 3.92 GPA and will be a teaching assistant for ECO 407 this upcoming semester. If anyone could offer advice or suggestions that would be great!

Thanks for the help.

If you meet the 150 unit req within 4 years, then there would be no need to take the 5th year for a MAcc. The MAcc won’t mean much once you obtained your CPA. Be careful, however, since some states are currently in the process of changing their CPA exam reqs for the 2014 year which may include a specific guidline of the amount of credits in each subject that those 150 credits must be allocated to (ex. 20 in Econ, 10 in Finance etc). If your dual major cannot provide those reqs based on the classes you would need to take, then you may need to do the 5th year to meet that req.

I would apply to the NLC’s whenever possible.
