I graduated with my Bachelor's in Management in 2006 and will be returning to school this summer to complete a Bachelor's in Accounting, which is what I should have done in the first place...but we learn from our mistakes, right :)

Even though I am not taking classes at the moment, I have been accepted to the Accounting Program and I am hoping to attend some recruiting events before I start classes this summer in order to line up some possible internships for Summer and/or Fall semester of this year. I have only taken Acct 2101 and 2102 and received a B in both classes. I will be taking the first 3 upper level courses this summer. My overall GPA is a 3.72 right now before any of the upper level accounting classes. Do you think that is possible to get an internship with one of the Big 4 or even a large regional firm for this Summer and/or Fall semester considering my current situation? I live in Atlanta and don't really have any previous Accounting experience. I have been wasting my time with general administrative type jobs.

Also, what are the prospects for full-time offers? I only have 8 classes to take so I should be finished by August 2010.

BTW, I am an African American female if it matters any, as I know there are some programs that help minorities obtain internships.

Any advice or information you have would be greatly appreciated.

There are ways to certain differentiate yourself in accounting. As many know, there is a steady move towards IFRS (as opposed to US GAAP), any sort of expertise in IFRS or transitioning to IFRS will undoubtedly be in demand - especially by the time you graduate. Picking niches is important - spent some time and try to pick the best ones. Best of luck.

VectorWega is right - I've met a few people who've gone through InRoads and loved their experience there.

Thanks to the both of you responding with your suggestions!

Unfortunately, the Inroads intern requirements state that you have to be a freshman or sophomore to participate in the program. Since I already have an undergrad degree in Management and only need to complete 8 required major accounting courses (21 hours), I will be starting out at Senior status if I'm correct...which sucks for me :(

I will just try to land an internship during this year's fall recruitment period. I am told that the Big 4 recruit heavily at my campus, hiring ~20% of accounting graduates.

I would really be interested in working as a forensic accountant..it's sounds a little more interesting than your typical auditing work. Does anyone know how I can set myself up for a future in forensic accounting? What should my game plan be in order to position myself for a career in that area?
