Hey guys, I am considering switching from civil engineering to accounting. I am detail-oriented and good with numbers. I ike skill-based work.
I am struggling at calculus and physics. My professors and friends tell me that it is normal and that it hould not motivate me to switch majors.
Do you guys have an tips on switching majors? Accounting careers? internships?
What college and Year?
Univerity of Iowa, sophomore.
Which level of calculus are you struggling with?
If you were to switch to accounting, then would your ultimate goal be to become a CPA?
Calculus 1 but gradewise I’m literally average. My ultimate goal would be to be a CPA and hopefully run my own tax firm.
The decision is yours to make. For most people, engineering classes are much harder than business and accounting classes. This is one reason the starting salaries are generally higher for engineering grads than accounting/business grads. To get the best paying jobs, whether in engineering or accounting, you need to get good grades and summer internship experiences. Good summer internships generally requires good grades. I think it may come to whether you can get good grades in an engineering curriculum or accounting curriculum. If you decide on engineering and do well, you can always get a Masters in Business or Accounting and pursue a CPA. It is much more difficult to get a BS/BA in accounting/business and then get an engineering degree.
