Accounting vs. Finance vs. Economics

Alright I'm a little perturbed, because I wrote this well thought out post about an hour ago, but I realize now that my internet went out so now I have to retype everything. So this will be a little shorter than the last one.

First off a quick summary is that I want to go to med-school to become a surgeon, but I now know that I can choose any undergraduate major. So now I am confused as to what I want to do with that. I am incredibly interested in anything business (I know that I still need a few mandatory classes for med school)

So my question is of the three business majors I am familiar with, which is the best? I know of the top 1% I have noticed a trend that Accounting, Finance, and Economics are up there a lot. So of all three there are some factors that I want to consider: their stability by themselves (if for some reason I couldn't get in to med school then how well I could do on the degree alone), it's benefit in the health field, and its advantages in the business world (help with taxes or other stuff)

After I finish residency I want to open my own practice, so a degree that could help me with my own business would be nice so that I don't have to hire someone to help me with that.

I know this might be rushed and short, my first draft was like 2 pages long. I'm finishing this one in the middle of a class...

I was in a situation similar to you a while ago. I was not set on med school, but sorta wanted to, but also wanted to do accounting. After a lot of thinking and research, as well as outside advice from more experienced people, I decided it wasnt a good idea to try to do two difficult things at once. Any of these three majors, as well as the required med school admission classes, require a lot of attention and studying. Taking Organic Chemistry and Anatomy along with Cost Accounting and Taxation of Entities didnt seem like a good idea in the least. I decided I’d rather do accounting than go to med school.

If you want to go to med school, and really know thats what you want to do, you will be much better off focusing entirely on that with a science degree such as chem/bio. It will be a lot more manageable than doing two very demanding fields. If you dont want to do a science major, choose something easier than accounting/finance/econ. If you really feel you want the business skills, you can take a few entrepreneurial electives or something, I dont think the full on business major is necessary.

Alright well then that is an additional factor I want to consider, but I’m pretty determined to major in business and go to Med School. I loveee business and I loveee Health. I’m already going to be sacrificing 12-15 years of my life they might as well be hard in the beginning.
