Accredited?

<p>National Merit Scholarships can only be used at accredited universities in the US. How would I find out if a university is accredited? I remember someone at Purdue telling me that she didn't apply to MIT because it wasn't accredited, but is that really true? </p>

<p>When I searched for "mit accredited" in google, I found "MIT is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education." at MIT</a> Facts 2010: Accreditation . However, using this site Search</a> Institutional Accreditation System , I could not find MIT.</p>

<p>Is that site valid? It is a .gov site, so I would assume it's valid, but MIT's own site says they are accredited. So what counts for National Merit?</p>

<p>It’s harder to find one that isn’t accredited than one that is. Even community colleges are accredited.</p>
