Anybody with information on what it takes to get into ACES LLP? I’m really interested in it and submitted the honors preferencing form 2 days after decisions came out, but have heard that this program is become more and more popular and therefore more competitive.
Stats:
1520 SAT, 34 ACT
Class President, Member of Concert/Marching Band
4.0 UW, 4.76 W
9 APs (1 in tenth, 4 in eleventh, 5 in twelfth)
Taken Java principles and currently in Comp Sci A AP with cybersecurity professor as high school teacher
Thanks in advance!
My son has the same SAT & gpa. He also had 12ap’s Little computer science expense but is game design classes when he was younger. He also didn’t get aces (1st choice, CS major). He did get 2nd choice, gemstone. He had taken a ap research & seminar in HS & I felt that was why. He is ok with it but don’t thin he will be going to UMD do to low merit $ $ no financial aid.
Are the LLP decisions made already? Where do the kids find out what they got? I don’t think ds has seen anything.
My kiddo was accepted - similar or slightly lower stats but extreme demonstrated interest in the field. However, no aid and a sm scholarship means he would be in debt a long time. He’ll likely go to his 2nd choice in state with a substantial scholarship. It seems like the CS field is highly competitive at UMD and there’s not much money to go around.
Touched base with my son–he applied to ACES but was accepted in the University Honors LLP and invited to FIRE. Looking into the FIRE program, I think it will suit his needs well and allow him to find something that appeals more to his interests. He is interested in CS but cybersecurity isn’t his primary focus.
@whovian26 aw I’m sorry about that. I think you’ll find the LLP you received to be very rewarding as well. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope to see you at Maryland!
