Achieving fluency in French...

I'm an AP French student, and I was wondering what the best way to achieve fluency is. I've read/gone through prep books and I've just recently started reading actual short stories. I was wondering whether anyone could recommend any books/movies/CDs that might help me achieve fluency. I was thinking of becoming a member at the FIAF, so that I could use some of their resources. Would that be worth it? I mean... I would be buying hundreds of dollars worth of books/CDs, whereas an academic family membership there is only $85, and it's more than just a library. Has anyone been to FIAF/ heard of any non-native person's success when using FIAF's resources?

Thanks a ton! :)

As with any language, you have to commit yourself to speaking the language. Reading/writing skills won't do you any good in a conversation.

Visit France. Not just for a fun family trip, but live there for a bit (with a family if your in high school) become an exchange student. Also, if you looking at it for life and not just for college, you can visit the year before attending school (take a year off and hang out in france) good luck. i want to become fluent in spanish so i can relate to you.

Immersion, definitely. I lived in Brussels between '94 and '98, and even though I haven't spent more than a week at a time in a French-speaking country since then, I've managed to maintain near fluency. It just forces you to think in French in a way that textbooks can't, and that stays with you for a long time (life?). Even a semester or a year (e.g. studying abroad in college) would help a lot, I think.
