I am overloaded with stress from school....and for the FIRST TIME...I have MASSIVE acnes on my face......I am very upset and it hurts my self-esteem...

please suggest products that you've USED and WORKED.....thanks.. there seems to be numerous products on the market that I just give up trying to find the best one....

Some products that have worked for me were Retin-A (prescription) with a combo of doxycycline (antibiotic) and benzoyl peroxide (10%). I used some type of oil-absorbing moistrizer from Clinique and that helped a lot. When I got out of junior high, my skin wasn't so greasy (ick, yeah I know) and from there, I just used OTC face washes like Neutrogena and whatever. In junior high, I was very active in sports and etc. Once I entered high school, I didn't really play any more sports and my skin started clearing up and now, it's pretty clear.

Read the 'PIMPLES' thread in the cafe and they have some good info (if you haven't already). I put a list of some general rules in that thread. Sooo... check it out.

Hmm... I've heard of raving views about Phisoderm and Cetaphil products. They're not so harsh. The same goes for the Clinique facial bar. There are lots of home remedies on the acne site I provided above ^^^.

The zit patches they sell are pretty nice too. If you're having an emergency, you can put toothpaste on your zit(s).

Also, a lot of the OTC products are similar: they use 2% salicylic acid or 5-10% benzoyl peroxide usually. ^____^

I actually apply egg yolk (basically break an egg, get rid of the egg white) onto my face and let it dry for 10 minutes and then wash it off. This actually worked pretty well (I used to have really bad acne, and tried a whole bunch of stuff that didn't work)...so I"d thought I'd share it. Also, its cheaper than a lot of other acne applications....since i think you can buy a dozen eggs for like $2.

Queen Helene makes a mint julep mask and an egg yolk mask that work very nicely. I remember in an episode of Even Stevens, they used the same mint julep product. ^___^

D also plays sports. During her sweatiest season of her sophomore year she went from an occasional blemish to what she considered horrible acne in a very short time. Immediate medical help was consulted and several prescription ointments were tried with no relief and the problem was worsening. D and I scheduled an appointment where she told the Doc to bring out the elephant gun. He put her on a controversial drug called Accutane that has to be monitored religiously. She saw results in 2 weeks and was clear in 3 months. She stayed clear for 9 months and at the first sign of relapse she has gone back on it for an additional 2 months. She is clear again. I am not suggesting you use it. Talk to your Physician as it is contraindicated for a number of individuals. After D's face cleared up so beautifully and quickly 2 other active girls and one boy at D's school have had good luck with Accutane. One parent expressed that some of the side-effects possible were somewhat present in her D but nothing that caused her worry.Good luck.

Dercutane - it has a bad rep in the US because of some incident... er... well, my derm told me about it but I forgot. In the US they usually start off with 1 mg to 1 kg of your body weight, here they start off with 1/2 mg to 1 kg to lessen the side effects (dry skin, chapped lips, occasional nosebleeds at beginning). I had my liver tested before I started using it and a month into it, absolutely fine. Anyway, the stuff works. For soaps I recommend plain Cetaphil.
I've had severe acne for a few years now, it's finally clearing up on this stuff.

No, it wasn't Donnie. It was an episode where Ren was having some type of slumber party or something similar and the boys (Louis and friends) were spying on them. Then, they were caught and Louis was given a makeover by the girls. <-- Mint Julep mask!

^ Don't wash your face more than 2-3 times a day! Wash your face only thrice if it is dire. Your skin will start drying up and you'll produce more oil and it'll just get really nasty. Use a moistrizer in the mornings also.

I had acne all four years of high school. It runs in my mom's side of the family. There wasn't anything I could do about it so I just had to adapt to it. During my junior year I took Accutane, which is a very powerful acne drug. It was a miracle, although it did cause a lot of dry skin problems in the beginning. I stopped taking it three years ago. I occassionally get some small breakouts but nothing bad. And my face has never been oily like it was before I took Accutane. The only time when my acne went away on its own was when I spent 4 days at a basketball camp. I don't know if it was the workout and all the sweating or what but my acne went completely away during those 4 days, but came back with a vengeance when I got back home from camp.

just because it worked for others doesn’t mean it’ll work for you!

drink a lot of water !!

exercise, relieves stress. even if it’s a 10min workout everyday.

find a cleanser with no acne fighting ingredients (cetaphil or purpose)

wash your pillow case

eat lots of fruits and vegetables

DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE

use an acne cream… there are a lot, i use walmart’s generic brand rofl

don’t pop your zits o.0 just let them slowly heal…

no matter how oily your skin is, you still have to moisturize =]

smile more, laugh more =] idk what else to say…

accutane is for severe acne >.< hopefully op knows what that looks like and isn’t complaining about 3 zits like silly girls =]

If all else fails, I would strongly suggest using accutane. Its a capsule that you take 1-2 times a day (depending on what your doctor says). Your doctor can give you more info, but since I just finished using it I’ll give you a quick rundown:

It’s prescription only

after 6-8 months, all your acne should be gone (mine is!)

Minor side effects are chapped lips and scaly feeling skin on your nose (only for a month or so, and its not as bad as it sounds. You nose will have a reddish shade to it and have a lot of little goosebumbs type things on it, but they go away)

WARNING!!
do not take if you are pregnant, and do not get pregnant while taking. It WILL cause serous birth defects (Basically, your baby will look like an alien)
You must stop taking all other prescriptions. NO exceptions
Do not give blood. No exceptions
Don’t share!
There are some rare (but serious) side effects (eg depression, lack of interest in activities, delusional thoughts, suicidal thoughts, etc.), but I never had any of these

Again, you should ask your doctor for the full rundown. But I can tell you firsthand that it works, and it works well. I wish you the best of luck.

Considering your acne is not severe (which would require a medical professional’s help), here are some tips:

Habits:
Ask yourself, what have you been eating lately? If you eat a lot of oily, fatty foods (including chocolate, sadly), you’re more likely to break out. Try to cut down.
Drink more/only water.
Stress and lack of sleep are also important factors to consider, though their impacts vary from person to person.

Treatment:
Wash your face twice daily, morning and night.
Try salicylic acid. It’s the most common OTC acne medication, and it usually comes in face washes in 2% doses. (Try Clean & Clean Advantage.) If, after several weeks, it has done nothing, try benzoyl peroxide. It’s stronger, so you should test it before using it. (Try Clean & Clear Continuous Control - 10% benzoyl peroxide. It doesn’t remove oil well though, so be sure to use a toner as well.)
Use a toner. Put a small amount on a cotton ball and swipe it across your face. You should see the dirt removed from your skin. If it doesn’t do much for you, skip it.
Moisturize with a water-based (not oil-based) product.

There’s this new concept out. It’s a radical, almost inconceivable idea due to the absurdity of it, but I’ve heard it works:
Washing your damn face.

Cetaphil burned my face off. It started to strip. I took (from prescriptions) Doxycycline, which I think is the pill, Clindamycin cream in the morning, and Retin-A in the evening/night. I took Retin-A every other day because it was a bit strong and started to strip my face, though not as much as the darn cetaphil. Anyways, the grease is gone and the acne has resided to just a small part of my face. Thank goodness.

Irritation from harsh products can make acne worse. Check out the acne dot org web site which recommends 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and starting very slowly. It has reviews of a lot of products. Also, accutane can cause lifelong side effects in some so please consider it a last resort.

Many have acne despite washing their faces 2-3 times a day. They resort to prescription and strong pills like Accutane that can cause severe side effects; all for a treatment that can be solved by “Washing your damn face.”
