For the unfortunate, with an abundance of hormones and testosterone (or) estrogen that reeks from armpits like yours truly,

what regime do you use to keep the hills and craters from erupting?

I'm sure there are those with baby like skin that can just say "Oh just wash your face," but I'm talking about those with severe pepperonis that require heavy cheese to keep them at bay.

I used Benzoyl peroxide, tried retinoids, and thinking of going back.

Hopefully CC can empathize with mass studying=stress=pepperoni faces.

Watch your diet too, because for most people bad diet=bad skin.

I would advise you to stay away from all of the expensive creams and medications. There are plenty of natural remedies that cost less and work better.

If you can, go to a dermatologist. I just take a small pill once a day, no side effects, and my acne is nonexistent. If I don’t take it for a few days, it comes back but within a few days of taking it my skin will clear up again. Drugstore products never worked for me, but this medicine works really well!

Benzoyl peroxide used in combination with clindamycin works better at eliminating inflamed acne than either individually, so that’s what I use. Duac Gel, I believe it’s called, but it’s only available via prescription. Unfortunately, blackheads don’t respond to BP or clindamycin, so I tried applying salicylic acid in addition to the previous two, but the blackheads still remain. Stubborn little bastards, they are.

Some OTC treatments: I LOVE DDF Sulfur Mask, available at Sephora for $38. Benzoyl peroxide is also very effective too, but I heard it can cause wrinkles over time, so I personally use it sparingly. Like JamesGold mentioned, salicylic acid helps with acne too. It’s supposed to help with blackheads as well, but the stubborn ones take a LONG time. I have a Clarisonic Mia and it’s gotten rid of nearly all my blackheads in a few months. It’s costly ($150), but helps with overall clarity and tone, so I’d say it’s worth it and definitely not a gimmick. Took me about a year to make the plunge and buy it though. xD

My acne ranges from mild to moderate, depending on stress, so I’ve mainly used OTC stuff. Differin is good too though, but it takes a while to start working. Exercise and a good diet…those are irreplaceable though. Sadly…since I have no time to work out and too much studying to do. :-/

I wash my face with Cetaphil daily facial cleanser for normal to oily skin. I then applied the matching lotion moisturizer. I feel like with this regular routine, my skin has gotten better lately. Even if my skin can be oily, I noticed that moisturizing was key. I still have acne along the sides of my face along the hairline, but I feel like my skin’s improved a tiny bit. I still have these stupid acne scars though on my cheeks Sucks. Anyone know how to get rid of these!?

Go for the accutane. I did and now I could like not wash my face for a week and I still wouldn’t get any pimples (I don’t do that BTW but I like knowing that I could)

Same here. I’m on antibiotics. I just take it once a day and I’ve found that if I don’t take it regularly, I start breaking out again (like right now, ugh).

And accutane has terrible, terrible side effects. I’d say just keep the acne over that horrible stuff. It’s really rather dangerous and I’ve known quite a few people who end up taking it and then their personalities just go completely haywire. But that’s my take on things.

I’ve suffered from acne since elementary school…I’ve been to 4 different Derms, been on many different pills (Adoxa, Solodyn, various mino/tetracyclines), OTC (Proactiv, Clean and Clear, Nuetrogena, Cetaphil, AcneAid, etc.), prescription (Benzaclin, retin A, differin, tazorac, brevoxyl, clindagel, clindamycin, metrogel, Glytone, plus many many more). I’ve used many all natural treatments over the years, I’ve changed my diet, all to no avail. I’m a freshman in highschool and the acne has never gone away. It’s gotten better at times, but it’s still always there.

Right now I’m using a natural charcoal soap, benzoyl peroxde, coconut oil/Clinique moisturizers. My skin is decently clear. Honestly, I don’t care anymore…I’ve had it for so long I can’t even remember what clear skin is like. I’ve just gotten used to it. It’s just a waiting game.

The “best” treatment for me is my beloved Clinique makeup. It is my lifesaver…I can almost totally hide my acne using it.

And I’m also surronded by my family and friends that love me no matter how bad my acne is. That’s a good treatment too. Once you get over how bad it is and look at the people who love you, it get’s a lot easier.

Those terrible side effects are extremely rare (>1% of people who take Accutane). Most people who take Accutane have the normal side effects of chapped lips, dry skin, and maybe some minor joint pain, but other than that Accutane is a very safe drug if the patient is taking monthly blood tests and is seeing a dermatologist on a regular basis. I took Accutane a couple years ago and it completely cleared up my face and boosted my confidence. Keep in mind, however, that this drug is reserved for those with serious cystic acne, not just whiteheads and blackheads.

^ yeah side effects are incredibly rare and it works. If you take it you’ll probably never have to worry about acne again. But you don’t have to have cystic acne to get it. I didn’t have cystic acne but since I had had acne fir so long and nothing else was working enough and I was starting to get scars my dermatologist told me that it was either accutane for a few months and have all of my acne be gone or take antibiotics for years and never have it completely go away. Taking antibiotics for a longtime is bad for you.

@Student8654, my dermatologist prescribed Doxyclycline for me too. How long are you using it? I looked it up online and lots of people said it wasn’t a long-time treatment, so I’m not sure if I should start.
