Acquiring an Accent?

I’ve lived in Georgia for a long time, and I don’t say y’all, so it’s not like you’ll definitely start saying it, especially if you consciously avoid using it

People from New York and Boston sound like they’re talking with rocks in their mouth. It’s awful.

People from Minnesota and Wisconsin sound like Canadians.

I think people from Mississippi and Louisiana (especially cajuns) have pretty cool accents.

Listen for the “oo”'s. They pronounce them like “uh”'s. We aren’t allowed to post YouTube links on here, but if you search Minnesota Accent and click the first video with the guy in the Minnesota Wild jersey w/ 53k views, listen to the way he says “roof”. It’s hilarious! I agree with the above post, they sound like Canadians (whose accents I also love).

I don’t think CT has an accent (sometimes NY, sometimes Boston depending on where you live), but apparently our “accent” is the most perfect 50/50 blend of England/American, I read online?

(Couldn’t get the edit in on time [20 mins] :frowning: )

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Homestar Runner (online cartoon), but I used to watch it when I was younger, and I always thought that Coach Z had a very strong Minnesotan accent.

I have lived in Texas for 6 years and I would say I have lost my Chicago accent, which is sad. Every once and while I say something with the old accent, but I think I sound fairly normal.

I have a slight southern accent after living in Southern Virginia for 7 years. Needless to say, it takes quite some time to acquire an accent.

I’ve been told that there’s such thing as a California accent, and apparently, I have one. I swear I feel like I talk normally, though. Hmmm =/

I wish I had a Liverpool accent.

“In Penny Lane the barber shaves another customer,
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim,
And then the fireman rushes in
From the pouring rain - very strange.”

Californians have accents? …news to me.

what about Noo Joisey?

^^ Apparently.

From Wikipedia (I love Wikipedia, don’t judge me):

^^okay, we do NOT talk like that. i have no idea where that stereotype came from, lol.

i never thought californians had an accent…

& i used to love the boston accent [see matt damon in good will hunting…hawttt], but i sort of feel like if you don’t look like matt damn [& not many people do], you sort of end up sounding like dumb, white trash [no offense] : )

so…good times in BU next year! :)

Leila, LIKE oh…my…god o_O Valley Girl?

^ I’m from the Valley, so the “likes” are pretty ubiquitous. You can easily amuse yourself by sitting in on a conversation of kids at my school and counting their “likes.” It’s quite mind-boggling. Even guys say it, like WAY too much. (That like was totally unintentional too… see? I’ve been corrupted).
