hello, just wondering if it is worth it to take the sat when i got a 34 on my first try on the act. I plan on applying to HYPMS. will they look at me negatively since i didnt take the SAT I?

Take the ACT one more time and if you want try out the SAT and/or take the SAT 2 subject tests.

it shouldn’t technically affect you negatively. If you’re a sophomore, take the SAT, but if you are a junior there’s no real reason for the SATs (you would just have to spend/waste more time for barely anything).

While, it maybe true that SATs are looked more favorably, a college can’t discriminate against the ACTs.

HYPMS are pretty competitive, so take the ACTs again only if you know you can increase your already good score. However, if you are good writer and have excellent ECs, no point in taking the ACTs again.

Consider yourself lucky, stop or try to get a 35-36 on the ACT. I wouldn’t bother with the SAT.

But don’t spend too much time on it, you are pretty much set.

There are rumors/speculations that HYPS look upon the SAT more favorably, but they don’t explicitly state that they prefer one over the other. I would say either consider retaking the ACT for a 35/36 or just leave it as is, don’t worry about the SAT.
