ACT: A 33 to a 35?

Hi!

I recently took my very first ACT in October. Considering I was a bit idiotic and didn’t take it before (!!) , I only have one more chance (December 9th) to improve my scores ready for RD, since I’m also a senior.

My score outline is as follows:

36 - Reading
34 - Writing
34 - Science
28 - Math

So there’s certainly a clear weak section there. I want to up this entire grade to a 35 in the next couple weeks. I know I can bump writing up to a 36 (I normally do), and science to a 35 (but that’s slightly more luck based), but I think it will take some considerable effort to bump maths up.

I did all of this on a medium level of prep - it wasn’t nothing, but it’s not like that’s all I did for months on end! I probably spent a solid week and a half of prep before.

So, long story short, do you think it’s possible to bump my grade up to a 35 by the next ACT Date? I’m kind of counting on, it, as I take the IB diploma, and applying to some pretty competitive universities. I go to a good, recognized independent international school in Singapore and thus although I have a good IB score (42/45) and some good EC’s, I don’t know if it will be enough.

Thankyou!

Are you in advanced math? The ACT has more lower level math, so as that has a lot of room for improvement look at that section to prep. For my kids this is a 6th grade through middle school math (as well as HS), you might benefit from a refresher of those early math concepts?

I take standard level IB math, which is sort of the mid-range math in the IB diploma. I’ve checked on a view forums, and apparently that is equivalent to advanced math? I will do an early refresher. I think that’s what’s lacking, Thanks! @Sybylla

certainly it is possible, you only need a 34.5 to get 35. hence if you can score the same for other areas and improve your math to 34, you will be 34.5. However, for students aiming at 35 or 36, there is not much room for error.
Did you know where you made those mistakes in Math?

The ACT Math is the easiest section one can improve on. Just get a book dedicated on ACT Math, do the problems, and understand the process and reasoning behind every answer.

Take official ACT tests. Know why you got each problem wrong. Then you won’t make the same mistake again
