Hello guys!!
Well let me begin by saying that after high school I got terrible scores on my SATS, I didnt even get an 800 ...So, I transfered into a Community Honors College where I took remedial classes at first. Now I have kept a very high gpa 3.9 and have been involved with school activities etc. Now, I am doing my transfer application and I see that all schools ask me for my SAT, and ACT scores and I am scared they won't accept me just because of my bad scores after high school . Does anybody know if they take a lot into consideration this tests for transfer students?

Test scores are more important for soph than for jr transfers. Some schools don’t consider test scores for jrs, while others place some weight in them. It’s really depends on the individual school. I suggest that you use the Search function on this forum as this question is asked very frequently.

You can apply to state schools as they are more likely than privates to not require a standardized test score for junior year transfers. You can also investigate private schools individually to see which ones don’t require a SAT or ACT score. Or, you can apply to test optional schools: [Optional List | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List for Fall 2025 - Fairtest). Finally, you would have the most options if you retook the SAT or took the ACT.

At top colleges that request SATs, the closer to their freshmen average the better whether you’re a soph or junior transfer. Many will allow you to retake them now. I think coming from a CC you will need decent scores to have a shot at a top 30 college that asks for scores.

The SAT is intended to predict how well you will do in college. Since you are coming from a community college, you have already proved how well you can do in college. A lot of schools don’t even ask for SAT/ACT from transfer students. Look for those schools if it concerns you. Don’t waste time or money retaking the test. It is meaningless and most schools won’t accept scores from a test taken while in college anyway.

I have seen what you are telling me in a lot of the applications. They mostly want me to send my high school ones which are horrible so I am scared it will influence my acceptance…That you very much for your answer, very positive!

Theposhgirl is just plain incorrect. You have not listed colleges, but many do allow you to retake the exam. My DD did this 2 years ago and the highly competitive colleges she applied to happily accepted the new scores.

If you think you can do better, call your schools and ask.

Unfortunately, 2 years at a CC isn’t going to show top colleges you can handle their work.

I get the feeling that TPG and hmom5 are talking about very different sets of schools. While many colleges may not give much, if any, weight to the SAT for jr transfers, most of the selective schools will want to see reasonable test scores, particularly from a CC student.

Please no flames about being anti-CC, I transferred from a CC way back when. The reality is that the school you’re transferring from does matter, and standardized testing is one way that adcoms use to compare student GPAs from different colleges (just as they do with fr. admissions).
