When you take the SAT or ACT in high school (9-12) will it always appear on your transcript? or do you get to choose? I'm trying to get into a college summer program that requires an ACT or SAT score, but I don't want it to appear in my transcript. Thank you in advance.

my school, i can choose to take it off the transcript

Same at my school, we get to choose, but I know at my friend's school they have no option.

Just check with your GC to see what the policy is at your school.

My school shows all of both. and we don't get to choose.

my school shows both, but they will only show the first one you take, and you can take it off if you choose

^ Huh? you can take off the first one?

Transcript may not be the only issue. At some point down the line, when your official test score reports are sent out to schools, I think that all sittings will be included.

I'm definitely not positive, but look into it if you're really concerned.

^ Anyone confirm?

SAT reports all scores. ACT has score choice.

So ACT only reports what you want to report?

yea, don't choose any schools to send your ACT scores to when you sign up for the test... instead wait for your score, if it is something you are happy with then you should report it to the colleges of your choice; however, College Board sends all SAT scores (subject and reasoning) everytime you send scores

Yeah but I'm currently just a freshman :/

When my daughter applied last year, we had a conflict with her GC because he was adamant about putting SAT scores on her transcript when we told him that we were submitting ACT Scores (big difference for her). My advice is to not have the scores sent even to your high school until you know what they are.

my school must be weird (and nice)... the only scores that appear on our transcripts are the ones we receive in our academic courses...

Can I just take the ACT and not give the score to the school and never have the college know?

Even if you take the SAT and the score gets sent, I don't think any school will worry about a random 9th grade sitting. That's mostly a guess, but enough kids take the SAT's in 7-9th grade (for prep school admissions, for summer programs, "just to see", etc.) that I doubt it's a concern.

You might receive better info in the Parents Forum. If any parents had kids take the test in 7-9th grade, they're probably more likely to know what happened with those scores (and more likely to have worried, at the time, about what colleges might eventually think of them) than the kids themselves.

When you register for the ACT and/or SAT, do NOT put your high school down on the registration info. Once you see your scores and you know that you would be happy to have your high school and any colleges see the scores, then have them sent to your high school. This way, if it is your school's policy to put standardized test scores on your transcript, you have nothing to worry about. In addition, if you decide to submit only ACT scores, it will prevent your high school from sending SAT scores that might be on your transcript.

SAT scores before 9th grade are not sent to colleges unless you specifically ask to retain those scores (i.e. got a 2400 in 7th grade). 9th grade scores on SAT will be sent with all the rest of your high school scores.

"Can I just take the ACT and not give the score to the school and never have the college know?"

Yes - don't have your scores sent anywhere when you sign up for the test. You can take the ACT as often as you want. Then pick the scores you want sent to the schools you are applying to. The schools will only see the scores you send. They won't know that you took the test other times.
