ACT April 2018 Test

Hey everyone. Just took the April 2018 Test.

Maybe we can discuss our thoughts on the exam, how hard it was (relatively), what scores we’re predicted and if we’re going to retake?

I’m a junior right now and this is the first time I took the ACT with writing. Math and science I felt were pretty good. I think I got a 36 on those. English was also not bad. I finished with a lot of time remaining so I could check my work but overall not too sure how I did. Hoping for a 36 on that too. Reading is always my hardest section and I barely finished it on time. I have no idea how many I missed but hopefully the curve is good.

Overall I’m hoping for a 36 but we’ll see when scores come out.

lol I’m just out here trying to do my best too. Did you take the April one?

yeah

@anonymous522083

what did you think of it? where do you usually score and how well do you think you did?

well superscore for my previous exams would be 29 but compostite is 24-26

I think I got a 27-30 tbh

Do you think any section was particularly difficult? My D thought the science and math were not difficult. Finished both early. She said she had some difficulty finishing the English section on time, had to guess on three due to time, which is unusual for her (she usually finishes this section early). Reading Comp she finished on time but she usually finishes this early as well. Her last composite was a 30. Thoughts?

@neonpinklime
I thought math and science were easy as well. But then again these are my highest scoring sections.
English was also pretty fast for me. I had a good ten minutes to review.
Reading is the hard one for me and this test was no exception. I had trouble finishing with time left to review but I did answer all the questiond

My D felt it was fairly easy overall especially compared to Feb. Now Feb had a very nice curve to go with it’s difficulty so I’m guessing less room for mistakes. She has a 33 and a 34 previously. Retaking for the math and science score the MIT coach requested her to have. Fingers crossed!

@bertiemom You can hire a coach specifically for MIT?

@gallentjill Athletic coach at the school. During our unofficial visit they said they recommend recruits have 35+ on Math and Science for the coaches to have best chance of getting them in and on the team. I still don’t think it is a great chance but they came up with the number somewhere!

Ah!! That makes more sense.

Got a 35 guys… 35 english, 36 math, 34 reading and 35 science… Do you guys think a retake is warranted? I feel so close to a 36.

No I do not believe that it is warranted, I believe that in all reality a 35 is just as useful as a 36 in the eyes of colleges, just work on other aspects of your app instead.

No need. My son is in the same boat. 36 English 36 Reading 34 Math 35 Science. 35 composite. Google tells me you both are in the top .61 percent in the country. Congratulations!

Actually when my daughter got a 35, we had a college advisor tell her NOT to retake it b/c it would make her look “greedy” or “needy.” He was also a former director of admissions at a LAC.

How did you guys score so high everyone at my school thought it was easy but we all went down even those in the 30s

thanks guys for the advice! The thing is I’m looking to apply to direct medicine programs that are super competitive. It also doesn’t help that I’m an Asian male so I was thinking that any bonus I can get will be much needed. I doubt I’ll score lower than 35 so I was thinking why not give it a shot and try it once more?

@anonymous522083
Hey man, I started at around a 30 too. The main thing is just doing practice tests over and over again and learning from your mistakes. Trust me, you’ll start to get a hang of the questions asked and you’ll begin to perform better.

yay!!! I just checked and I got a 34!!!

I got a 30 the first time and I’m happy to have improved
