I've never taken the ACT, however, my SAT score is atrocious and I'm looking for a way to boost my chances if and when I apply. Does the ACT hold as much weight as the SAT in transferring?

Yes, I know the tests aren't a major factor at most schools, but say I applied to an elite school. The adcom wouldn't give preference to the SAT(unless specifically stated) right?

I can't believe I didn't take this test in HS. It's much easier for me than those tricky ETS puzzles. Plus, I don't want to spend too much time prepping.

Thanks :)

Bump...

Nobody responds to my threads lol.

The whole SAT vs. ACT thing...

It doesn't really matter. Each test is different from the other in some ways, and schools know how to evaluate each of them. Unless the school says specifically that they do not take the ACT (which I have never heard), then there will be no preference. Besides, these days schools are using a handy dandy SAT-ACT conversion chart anyway...

Both tests weigh the same, but ACT is MUCH easier to take. It's based on reasoning, you don't need to know anything about what the question is on, and you can still get the answer right. However, if you're transferring and planning on taking the ACT's, you might as well stop right there. Most colleges do not accept SAT or ACT scores if you take the test after you're out of high school - you supposedly "know" more and get a handicap on the test.

Really? I've only heard of a few schools like NYU that won't accept scores taken past HS.

Do you know of any others in particular?

Thanks for the replies. :)

I would suggest researching it with the schools that you would like to apply to...that would be the best thing for you to do...
