When I took my ACT in September, I requested for the scores to be sent to Columbia. I scored a 31 composite, but a 21 in the english/essay portion since I got a 2 on my essay. (I know it's terrible, I wrote it in 3 minutes...) I am retaking the ACT on the October test date. I will do significantly better since I am now familiar with the exam.
I am applying early decision for Columbia University's School of Engineering, and I know that the ACT scores will not be in by November 8th, the early decision deadline. Does this mean that the committee will make their decision on my acceptance based on my ACT they have on file? OR Will they be able to see my higher scores once they eventually come in?

I am thinking about just applying regular instead. This way, at least my ACT score for the October date will be on file.I am in the 24% of my class, I have a 3.7/4, 5.2/6 GPA, and have 400 hrs of community service. Chances? Advice on regular decision?

Advice/questions/comments are greatly appreciated!
