I took the ACT a while back and got a 31... then I decided to take it again with writing. i got a 32 in writing this time but didn't do so good in the reading section... Can my scores count seperately.. like, for instance, can a college count my 32 in writing and 31 that i got previously or will the 32 in writing only go with the 29 i just got???

is it just average or add up the scores together....your question make me confuse

They take your highest average for only one test. They do not separate the different tests and average together the best from each (although that would be nice.) So they will take the 32 with the 29 in reading.

Check with potential schools. I've heard on CC that there are a few that will look at subscores from different test administrations. But I don't remember which schools! I think most places don't, though. All this is hearsay ... I don't know anything on this subject other than what others have said on CC.

Depends on school:

Majority: considers only that test with the highest composite score. If the college requires the writing section (many of the high ranked colleges), it will consider only that ACT test that was taken with writing.

Minority: take highest subscores from multiple tests. But if college requires the writing section, it too will consider only that ACT test taken with the writing section.

Third and quite small minority (two I am aware of are Rose Hulman and Georgia Tech): consider only your math and English score for admission and ignore others including composite.
