no one was responding in the main thread so i thought id try my luck here:

i know that at most competitive colleges, they take your act score and simply convert it a sat score - but my question is this: do they take your act math score and convert it to a sat math score, etc? or do they simply convert it to the 1600/2400 scale and not worry about independent scores. the reason i am so curious is because i know (specifically princeton and dartmouth) are widely known for paying attention to act science (and therefore it doesnt seem like individual conversion would make sense). does anyone know how this works?

I think only schools that tend to get nearly 90% SAT submission tend to convert the ACT to SAT.
I don't think they quite know what to do with ACT scores

This is certainly true for many schools on the east coast

i talked to an adcom at columbia, and she was saying when you ONLY send act they sometimes convert act to sat for individual subjects to help. eg 25actmath = 790 satmath.

i was wondering if anyone knew anything else.

well the thing about ACT-SAT conversion charts is that the act has a english, reading, math, and science sections while the SAT is only taking into account CR and math, so i think the score are generally off + or - 20-30 PTS. usually + because the science section is one of the lowest scoring sections, meaning it lowers your composite.
