I'm taking the ACT in 5 weeks and I have no clue what the test is even about. (I've been focusing on the SAT) Because of that, I bought the Barron's ACT 36 and The Real ACT Prep Guide and read up on how many sections there are etc. I took the English part of the practice test and got a 28. Is that good? I know it's out of 36 and the 28 seems pretty low to me. I missed 9 (out of the 75) questions and I'm not sure how I should improve. Any advice?

Check out the ACT/SAT forum here, people are often posting lots of tips and others in situations like you are, they have lots of tips.

The best way to improve is to take those practice test/sections, look through the answers (I know PR offers explanations for why a question has the correct answer), so review all of those. Look for trends you seem to show when you are taking multiple tests, and review that material more. For example, I noticed that I almost always score 30-32 on the English tests. When I look at the answers I missed it is almost all comma / dashes / semicolon stuff. That’s what I have to work on.

If I practice 1-2hrs a day from now on for the next 5 weeks, do you think I can raise my score to a 33-36 (composite?)
I took a practice test (first one ever) and I got the following scores:
English: 28
Math: 31
Reading: 24
Science: 27
I don’t know why I suck at reading so much. I know I didn’t have enough time to finish it but even so, 24 is horrible. Advise for quicker comprehension?

Ain’t going to happen lol.

For reading section:
Read the passage first(Focus on first/last sentence for each paragraphs).
Do the questions.
Go back and confirm if you are not sure about your answer.
