ACT essay need specific examples?

<p>So for ACT essay it says to use "specific examples." But I'm confused because most of the sample essays I read used general examples, not books or historical events like on the SAT essays. Do you need to use books/events examples for ACT essay? And if not, what kind of examples do you use? </p>

<p>My understanding is that on the ACT you can use specific examples from your own experience, whereas the SAT requires examples from history or literature.</p>
