ACT essay tips?

I took a practice ACT a week or two ago with no real intention of getting a tremendously high score, because I thought I'd take a chance since my SAT scores were pretty low. My first practice ACT was composed of the following:

English: 30
Mathematics: 32
Reading: 32
Science: 29
COMPOSITE: 31

--
I plan on taking the ACT with writing in April, but I've looked at a few sample prompts and they truly overwhelmed me. I'm pretty good with SAT essay prompts, having scored a 12 on my SAT essay, but I'm not sure how to tackle the ACT prompts. For the SAT essays I have a pretty good basis of literature and history, so I know how to write those. However I'm completely new to the whole apply-to-teenagers'-lives concept for ACT essays.

Does anyone have any tips or guidelines for ACT essays? o: Anything would be appreciated! Thanks ^_^

Writing more than 3 pages almost always nets you an 8 or above. The essay doesn’t factor into the composite and most colleges don’t even look at it, so don’t stress too much.

But for actual advice:

Have a clear stance.

Demonstrate the complexity of the issue by looking at the other side, and then refute it.

Write 3+ pages.
