ACT Essay

How does the ACT Essay affect the score?
Thanks.

I think that it’s combined with the English section.

I don’t think the essay affects your score. I think colleges just see it.

Are you taking the ACT if you are good luck!!!
It’s mostly a persuasive essay.

They do combine it with the English section but it doesn’t affect your overall score… My two sister took it and the writing part was the easiest for them. So don’t sweat take it easy and you’ll do just fine.

BTW do you enjoy writing incessantly??

hey chineseman what part are you most worried about??

im kinda worried about the essay section too… my score went from a 9 the first time to an 8 the second time and i dont know why. any advice?

Hi there. I was awarded a 12 on the essay (the highest score or whatnot). My advice would be to make sure you are fluid and cohesive in your logic and writing. I wrote a good 'ol 5-paragraph essay and fared well. I also got a 12 on the SAT essay the first time I took it. This was before I got my 5 in AP Lang, too. English is my thing, but I think the essay overall is a peek into your logical reasoning and has little to do with style.

If you write over 3 and a half pages you are garunteed at least an 11. Got an 11 both times, and making up examples is perfectly fine.

^ A 12 on the SAT essay? now that is a feat!

We solely have to fill up the space to acquire that score?

Basically. It’s all I did and I got an 11 both times. Also make up a personal example, those are golden. nice into. and concl. and you are ready to go.

Disclamer: I mean you can’t write like a complete bafoon, but if you write decent and a lot then the high scores are very likely to come your way.

Do we use historical examples and literary examples for the essay like the SAT writing? Or is ACT writing kind of different?

Thanks for the clarification.

I think that the SAT topics are more broad whereas the ACT topics are typically direct and applicable to high school students.

Yes, on the SAT essay I felt I had to use more style and I really had to bring in literary knowledge and ended that one with a bang (a favorite quote from the Scarlet Letter - “as phantasmagoric as the Northern Lights”). I was feeling particularly artsy and creative that day. The SAT essay is a lot more difficult to score perfectly on than the ACT essay. I made up statistics on the ACT essay and did just fine. I felt the SAT was more stringent and that the readers really did care about what you were saying.
The two questions I get:
Yes, I wrote in cursive.
Yes, I filled up…all of the available space, I believe. On both. Excepting half a page on the ACT. So…2 and a half pages?

^ ACT is 4 pages, so that would be writing 3.5 pages.

For some reason, I can’t write a good ACT essay

What am I supposed to include in an ACT essay that is different from a SAT essay?

Got 12 Essay on the SAT
Got 8 Essay on the ACT…

Sorry I didn’t reply, I couldn’t check for a while.
I’m most worried about the science section, but thanks for your help.

I recently got a 10 on my SAT essay, but I think I’m better at writing persuasively.
Thanks.

The science section was pretty tedious on the February test. It lowered my composite score by quite a lot because of how poorly I did on it. They don’t give you a lot of time to do science, but from how I have been studying and so forth, a lot of the questions are dead give-aways it’s just a matter of being able to interpret the charts/diagrams/passages that they give you. I know that on the test it may come off as overwhelming, but the answer is right there for you, it’s just a matter of finding it. I’m hoping that will work for me the second time around, and my score will be higher. good luck this weekend!
