I have a 2300 SAT and i would like to try the ACT. How do i start to prepare for this? all my friends say that they didn't study and all got 35+s.... But i want to be safe and get that high ACT score as well. So where do i start?

I’d start by finding new friends, perhaps some that aren’t liars.

I wouldn’t say that it’s necessary to also take the ACT with a 2300.

Although I was in your exact situation. A week after finding out my SAT Score (2300, coincidently), I was scheduled to do the ACT. Had already paid, so decided to take it, and only took one practice test (ended up with a 35). Have you already signed up for an ACT? Again, if you already have a 2300, I really wouldn’t worry about taking the ACT… good job on the 2300

Edit: Reading your question, I guess I really didn’t answer it. To study, I would take a practice test and maybe look at the science comprehension part, which is fairly different from the SAT. Also do a quick simple trig review.

khh594, actually they didn’t lie cause one of them just went in and took it and was told by his parent the night before that he was taking it… I have smart friends, no need to get jealous :P

and thanks physics! should i get a prep book as well or well do i get practice tests from? and did you find it easier than the SATs?

Lol, jealous? Please

You can find the prep book with three real ACTs in it at a lot of libraries (or you can probably buy it online). I found it to be about the same difficulty as the SAT, and my score translated exactly over. The science was harder, because I had never practiced it before…

I would advise my kids to drop the ACT with test scores that high. Better you study for your APs and your SAT2s. Many top schools, such as the ivies use a 5 part SAT score when assessing candidates so unless you already have 2 SAT2 tests that are up there, that should be your test focus. I see no value added for you to take the ACT and you can be doing so many other things instead.

Has anyone used “ACT for Dummies” or “Cliff Notes: ACT”? Are they good as other prep book companies?

I have ACT for dummies, its only helpful if you wanna score in high 20’s. If you want to score in the mid 30’s I suggest you get Barrons. I was studying through Barrons and I must admit THEY ARE TOUGH. I took practice tests on it, my composite came from 23 to 29 after 2 weeks of studying, I only did 1/5 of the book though, sitting down with it and doing the whole book will actually help you a lot.
