ACT for internationa students, accepted???

Does anyone know whether ACT is accepted for international students?

I don’t know for sure, but I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be.

what countries have ACT test centers? All I know is that ACT is not a common test outside of US

I don't think so....If I was an adcom, I wouldn't. I'd say:"Hey you foreigners you fly back and take the SAT!" Then somewhat sheepishly I'd say" Wait! You said you were the Prince of Brunei? YOu want admission? How rich are you again? OH! Yeah just fill out this form...Welcome to Harvard."

That is what would happen if I were an adcom....which will probably never ever happen

There were 4 schools in Bangkok that are authorized SAT test sites, but there's only one that is an ACT test site. The disadvantage is that if you take ACT outside of the US now you can't do the writing test and you can't do anything online. It's quite inconvenient that you'll have to fill out the paper registration form at the test site, pay with bank draft and wait for the scores in the snail mail.

I had to do ACT in Thailand in order to have all the scores I needed by the deadline stated by colleges I applied. One of the advantages is that I could take ACT to use in place of SATI and took 3 SATII's in the same month. I got 28 (E25, M34, R21, S30), quite a satisfiable score and I got into a nice list of colleges.

College admissions just can't blow you off because you did ACT in place of SAT. But for your advantage I suggest trying on both practice tests and take the one that you can do better. Anyway, if you need the ACT with writing you'll probably have to do SATI as well.

Since my first language is not English, I had to struggle to catch up the time. I tried with all my might to read faster. To score perfectly, I had only 2 minutes for a 400 words critical reading passage. However, I got into Penn which fully accepted ACT in place of SATI and SATII last year. ACT is not very common outside of the US, but it's fine.

If you do ACT outside of the US:
1. you can't view your scores early online
2. you can't register online (to register, contact the test center directly)
3. you'll be assigned an ACT ID, which you'll need to use it for requesting official score reports to college. So, practically I had to wait for my ACT scores in the mail before I could request additional reports. But I sent ACT an email with my name and some other info and they emailed me the code so I could request score reports before I actually got the paper scores.
4. You CAN request score reports online and pay with your credit cards. To do that, you'll need the ACT ID.

anything in details can be found on www.actstudent.org. navigating that site is confusing sometimes.

The rules for a college's accepting the ACT are no different for foreign students from US students. It will be accepted at almost every college and not weighed any higher or lower than the SAT. However, you need to overcome the logistical problems noted above for taking the test and a number of colleges are requiring its writing section if you intend to rely on the ACT (in other words, there are colleges that will not consider your ACT for admission unless you took its optional writing section).
