Hey, so I’ve decided to apply early to MIT. It’s a huge, huge reach for me (I guess that could be said about anyone) and I understand that test scores aren’t THAT important, but I have a few questions about the ACT. Recently, I’ve read online that MIT values the Math & English sections far more than they do the Reading and Science. My ACT wasn’t as high as MIT’s average, but I scored a 35 in English and a 34 in math. My composite was brought waaay down to a 31 (32 super score) by my reading (27) and science (30). Should I study to retake those sections, or am I fine? Note that I’ve taken the ACT 3 times and I’ve scored a 27 on the reading section each time. I really, really suck at reading on standardized tests. I just get so bored reading passages about useless stuff like the history of pianos and I often find myself zoning out. Also, for the ACT science, idk how I scored a 30… I scored a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam and I love science. It feels like the ACT science exam isn’t even a science test… it’s just another reading test
After 3 times maybe it’s time to ‘let it go’ and move on. Did you ever try the SAT?
I already paid to retake it like 2 weeks from now, so I’m definitely going to try the ACT once more (I’m pretty sure they don’t offer refunds.) And yes, I’ve taken the SAT Subject tests and I’m scheduled to take the SAT Reasoning Test on November 5th.
Then focus on the reading and science since they superscore. Get as many practice tests as possible and simulate real test conditions.
Hey, the only scores that really matter for MIT ACT are your math ones, ideally a 32+ and if you don’t get that, then close to an 800 on your SAT II to make up for it. I’m getting recruited for Crew at MIT and the coaches outlined what the school wanted to see in terms of scores, which you have, so I wouldn’t worry about it.
Okay, great! Math is definitely my strong subject. I got a 780 on the regular math SAT and I’m waiting on my results for my Math 2 SAT 2. All of my standardized test scores are brought down by other random sections
It’s a STEM school. They would mostly be looking at your Math score. I’ve known people who got accepted with Reading Scores of 27-29. Still, aim for as high as you can, but don’t stress out about it too much. Anything above a 30 is a great score.
