ACT help

I'm going to be a senior this coming fall
and took the ACT on June but I need some help and thoughts

so my score...
English: 24
Math: 34
Reading:34
Science:36
Writing:9
Comp:32

I really think I was lucky to get these scores without studying much. I was so into SAT prep, and when it didnt really work out (getting a ook score), other people recommended me the ACT and without much prep I signed up for the ACT. But SAT and ACT concepts are similar so I think I was able to get these amazing score with practically no prep.

Anyways as you can see every score is very good and high except for that stupid english 24. Nowadays i kinda wish I could take like 2 points for math science reading sections and add it to the english because its so bad.

and i look at colleges and their avg ACT scores. Again, math reading science meets the "general cutoff" but english it way off. I starting to worry that the english it just going to kill my chances to getting into a good (maybe ivies) school. My extra cir. is very good i think and my GPA is also very high... but that24..... I going to take the ACT again on SEP but i dont really know if it'll raise it much.

what do you guys think? will that 24 basically ruin my hopes of getting into good schools?

thanks

no that 24 doesnt ruin your chances long as you have good GPA
i found english easiest of all…got a 36/12
a 36 sci score is really impressive
re-take study english conventions and get it up to a 29 or 30
its doable

No one part of your application can “ruin” your chances. But you can bet adcoms will see that discrepancy and wonder why your English skills are not up to par. Unless you’re an international student or did not grow up in the U.S., there really is no excuse for this discrepancy. Prep again specifically for English and take it again. If you prep (and based on your other scores), you should easily be able to score above a 30.

I agree with ptontiger16. Just do a lot of practice on the English section and take it again. Do as many practice tests as you can and review all the answers so you understand why they are right. My DS was weakest on this section too and he was able to get it up to a 30.

thank you guys so much i was feaking out but i guess the only way is to practice as much as i can. Thanks again
