ACT instead of SAT II's

I've heard about some colleges that will take the ACT with writing instead of SAT IIs.

How common is this?

I did pretty well on the SAT reasoning test (it was fine by my standards), but pretty poorly on the SAT IIs that I took. I'd prefer not to send the scores at all. Would it be ok for me to take the ACT in say, September, and send that score? Would most colleges be ok with that?

If it helps, I'm looking at:

Barnard (ED)
American
Boston College
Boston University
GWU
Mount Holyoke
NYU
Scripps
Tulane
Vanderbilt

Many schools do take the ACT instead of SAT II. Go to the admissions site for each one and check.

The only way to be sure is to review the websites for the schools you are interested in. They don’t hide this information.

Any other source might be out of date; requirements change from year to year.
