Would I receive any sort of disadvantage if I took the ACT instead of the SAT? Almost 99% of the people at my school take only the SATs. I can probably bet half of them don't even know what the ACTs are. Say I am applying to a tier-1 college where 10-12 fellow classmates are also applying too. Would adcoms look down upon me for submitting my ACT, when all the other students applying from my school submitted SAT scores. I should mention that I have taken two SAT-II tests and scored 750+ on both so I would be sending those in, but I never took an "offical" SAT I test.

It really depends on what the college itself is looking for. If the college wants SAT scores, then take it. If it wants ACT scores, take it. If it doesn't care, take whichever you think you will perform best on.

I'm looking at schools like Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Penn. Maybe that would help.

If they say they accept either, they accept either. They'd tell you if they preferred one or the other. Why would they lie about that? Many schools just convert ACT scores to equivalent SAT scores, so it really doesn't matter. Send whichever you do best on.
