ACT: Is it a mistake?

<p>Does anyone know an easy way to find out which schools do not accept the ACT? I'm trying to figure out if my son is making a mistake by not taking the SAT.</p>

<p>All schools now take the ACT. The last hold out was Harvey Mudd College in California. Some schools may also require SAT subject tests even if you take the ACT. However, many schools do not require subject tests if you've taken the ACT.</p>

<p>Whether or not it's a mistake depends on whether or not there is any chance he'd score higher on the SAT, because colleges consider an applicant's highest scores. </p>

<p>for which colleges require SAT II tests.</p>

<p>My son scored higher on ACT than SAT and he thinks that the SAT felt longer and he may have fatigued a bit on it. They do throw in those tests that don't even count on it.</p>

<p>Thanks for the input. He is going for it.</p>

<p>Be careful with what these guys said. The info may have been correct that all colleges now take the ACT, but that doesn't mean they are accepted alone. I know a lot of colleges in Florida require the SAT to be admitted but will look at your ACT score in ADDITION to your SAT score. In other words, they won't accept the ACT alone.</p>

<p>DVM258, I've never heard that about colleges in Florida or anywhere else, for that matter. Can you tell us which schools you're referring to?</p>

<p>Hi, dvm258, can you provide some evidence (links to websites) to back up your statement?</p>

<p>dmv258, are you thinking of schools that require SAT Subject tests in addition to the ACT? I've also never heard of a school requiring the SAT Reasoning test (SAT I) along with the ACT, but I'd love to know if it's true.</p>

<p>UF requires ACT or SAT:
All applicants must submit the SAT or the ACT with writing test. While UF cannot mix scores from old and new tests, the university will accept the highest subscores from the new SAT if you took the new test multiple times. The university cannot mix or combine any ACT subscores.

UCF requires one or the other:
Official SAT (code:5233) or ACT (code:0735) scores
Stetson University requires one or the other:
All applicants for freshman admission are required to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT).
Rollins University has a score-waived option, or requires one or the other for merit scholarship consideration:
Selection of Test Score Waived Option OR official SAT/ACT scores
(Test Score Waived Option not appropriate for applicants seeking academic merit scholarship consideration.)

University of Tampa requires one or the other:

SAT and/or ACT scores

<p>I think dvm's all wet.</p>

<p>You know, another ACT advantage is that half of the composite is math and science, whereas SAT, 2/3s is English and reading. Since my son is a math and science kind of guy, he preferred ACT and scored better.</p>
