ACT June 2010 - Science

Does anyone remember getting the most work done in experiment 8?

what’s that 95 question?

It was a graph…The only logical question was 95. I remember it because there was no 95 on the graph - you had to interpret it.

I thought the 95 one was 105? Because it barely increased, not enough to be 95.

I put 40, 40 I think…not sure exactly what I put, but I know my answer was based on LEAST deformation. I think I put “D” so whatever that was? was it 30 40 or 40 40?

The question asked which of them would be stiffest based on experiment 2 + 3.

So stiffer means less deformation. You know that Young’s modulus is a measure of the intrinsic properties… so the higher this is, the stiffer the object is. Then we have “I”. It showed that higher “I” had less deformation I think?

Does anyone remember getting the most work done in experiment 8?

Pretty sure it was in experiment 4 that the most work was done ;O

As I recall…it could have been that as well, but I think when you multiplied it out, 8 had the highest. not fully sure though.

yea I was caught on that one also I remember originally looking at 8 but then I saw 4. I f**king hate science. I would have had my dream score if this section wasn’t included! DAMN IT!

Can anyone just briefly clarify the young’s modulus one?

if 30 40 was the answer, what choice was that?

What were you trying to maximize? I was trying to find the maximum young’s modulus with the the I that yielded the minimum deformation.

Hah, don’t worry, I think reading may have ****ed me as well (hoping for 33…probably not going to happen, though I got a 32 on reading last time…). Frankly, Iwas just retaking this ti get a higher score in science.

i just plain don’t understand how to do anything on the science section, with all the graphs and writing, i end up with a sensory overload and i cant seem to get anything done (correctly). hopefully i’ll end up with a fair score is hoping

Guys how many % questions were there in the part with the flowers and hight and were the awnsers 25% and 50%

I put whichever one had 200 when you multiplied it out.

There were two percentage problems on the flower passage. Don’t remember the first one, but the last one was 50% and I know BECAUSE I FREAKING MISSED IT.

Hey dont feel bad mastermania. I got every question wrong in the flower/tallness section. Yup… get out the knife

Anyone? 10 char

more stiff=more deformation.
more deformation=less I
Hence, I 30 and W 40 were correct.

was that answer D by chance? or was it one of the first two.

one of the first two. Answer choice D was I 40 and W 40

Ah I think I know where I went wrong.

The stiffer an object, the MORE it deforms? That seems contradictory… is that right?

edit: Just looked up the real science. Stiffness is the resistance to deformation. More stiff = less deformation. Are you guys still sure it wasn’t 40,40?
