ACT June test refund--I don't understand

Hi-My D’s ACT test site cancelled the June test so I rescheduled her for July and was charged $68 again. For those who received a refund, how long did it take? Was it automatic or did you have to fill out an additional form? I emailed ACT and they said I could fill out a form to request a refund, but I’m not sure if it is too soon. If I don’t have a refund showing on my credit card, does that mean I need to request it or is there some processing time? Last I checked ACT did not seem to be accepting calls. The email I received made me wonder if I had rescheduled wrong and should not have been charged a second time if I was just rescheduling versus cancelling. The wording is unclear to me on the email. I don’t want to request the refund if one is already on its way–suggestions?

update-I filled out a form to request refund for the June test since I did not see a refund to our credit card when I checked online. I hope this is the right thing to do. Once submitted, I received a message saying to allow 5 business days. If I do not receive a refund by 06/15, I will contact.

I signed my son up for the April test, and it was cancelled. I had to call them. They said that a credit would be posted to my credit card.

@shopal2 Thank you. When did you call and have you gotten the refund? I thought when I rescheduled to July it would be automatic, but after a week have not seen anything on my credit card, so I emailed and was sent a form to request refund for June this past Fri. When I tried to call, they were not accepting calls at this time. I will wait and check again next Mon…if no refund, I plan to call or contact by email again.

Here is what we received approx 1 week after sending in a request via their email address provided:

"Dear ACT Examinee:
ACT has recently received your request for a refund from the April and/or June 2020 Test date. However, in order to process the request more information is needed. The following form has been made available to supply the necessary information to help supply your request for a refund that will include: "

A link to the form was provided and once you fill it out just submit from the link. You will need your child’s ACT ID found either in the lower corner of the printed admissions ticket or on our account online to complete the form.

We were told the refund could take up to 5 business days to show up on our original form of payment.

I think it is a little faster (and less frustrating) to request the form and fill out verses trying to get through on the phone

Thankyou @coffeeat3 We received the same email and I filled it out and submitted this past Friday. When did you complete the form and did you receive refund? I put a note on my calendar to check next Monday which would be at least 5 business days.

@1Lotus - no refund yet. They said it would take up to 5 business days AFTER receiving the request - I am not holding my breath and have a note to check at the end of the month. It is not automatic and I wonder how much both SAT and ACT will make in non-claimed refunds - they do not make it easy and I think it is a big scam that it is not automatic. Of course, this will hurt families that either don’t have the time or understand the process to request a refund.

They are not the only company doing this - we have theater tickets to several shows that were “postponed” and Ticketmaster will not refund the money, as they said the shows were not cancelled, but pending a new date - who even knows if we can attend when they set the new dates - but in the meantime, they have our money.

@coffeeat3 Thank you. We are in the same situation with tickets to a dinner theater. We purchased 4 tickets…us and my H’s out of town brother and brother’s wife. Now it will be even harder to reschedule whenever it starts again because we will have to coordinate with them…or maybe we will just plan to take the kids or another couple. Let me know if/when you receive the ACT refund.

IIRC, I received the refund the same day I signed D21 for the next test. She was scheduled in March (cancelled), rescheduled to June (cancelled), now rescheduled to July. I had to pay 3 times but was refunded twice, and I believe the refunds were the same day as the new registration. I’m sorry you all are going through this hassle!

@cstp28 thank you? That is what I don’t understand. Some people seem to have gotten a refund quickly, no issues…and others waiting/filled out form, etc. I have same cc as I registered with for June ACT. Did you have to fill out form or was yours automatic when you rescheduled?

@1Lotus I just checked my statements and both times, the credit appeared the same date as the new registration. I did not have to jump through any hoops at all. It just showed up.

@cstp28 thank you. That is what I thought would happen with mine, but checked a week after I rescheduled and nothing refunded to my cc account, so I filled out the form a week later. That is so strange how it worked fine for you and not for me. Hope the form helps get to the bottom of this.

Where did you get the refund form? Our March, April & June tests were all canceled and the ACT will not allow us to register for a July test. No one will answer their phone when I call.

@Nagpie415 I sent an email to ACT and was sent the form to complete online. I submitted it last Friday. The form said to allow 5 business days and I plan to check my credit card statement on Monday and post here. It is annoying that I could not reach anyone by phone either.

@nagpie415-I checked my credit card statement and received my refund for the June test on yesterday, June 11. I have D scheduled to take the test in July if it happens.

The saga continues…today I received a message that my ACT refund had processed and to allow 5 business days…but I already received a refund last Thursday! I am suspicious that I could end up with a second refund and have to figure out how to pay it back—I hope not but I have it marked on my calendar to check my cc statement next week.
