ACT Math Help

Hey guys!

I have a 34 on the ACT with 36 E, 35 R, 35 S, but only a 32 M. I need help bringing up my math from a 32 to a 34-36. Please give me some tips for reviewing/etc.

I think you should just be satisfied with your 34 and move on

Those scores would give you a 35…

Sorry, I Actually have a 31 Math. An improvement in math could give me a 35 or a 36 though! @CollegeCraze72 @Roxbury_resident

I still think it doesn’t matter. The difference between 34 and 36 isn’t a big one.

@Roxbury_resident Maybe not to you! If you don’t have any tips then that’s fine.

Couple things before I can advise. I consistently get 36 in math but my reading and English aren’t good.

  1. where do you want to go college wise
  2. how strong are your awards/ ECs/ Service
  3. What math are you in at your school
  1. Penn, JHU, Duke, Vandy are top choices
  2. Awards avg/ECs Strong/Service Strong
  3. Calculus (Struggle with elementary math like ACt math)

@CollegeCraze72

Well, before we can give tips it would help to know your weaknesses. Are you getting problems wrong? If so, in what portion of elementary math? Is your issue time restraint? The only real advice I’d be capable of giving is to do more practice tests - although, like previous users have stated, you might just need to take your score as it is - there’s always the chance you could pay, retake, and score lower.

@QuantumParticle Obviously the time constraint is tough, but I always finish. My weakness would probably be the last 10 questions of the test.

My best suggestion is

  1. confidence! You are in Calculus you should know how to solve every problem, that really clicked for me and I suddenly jumped from a 30 to 36… That confidence leads you to go into those last few problems and think I know this, they are just trying to trick me. Try to find a way around the question. They try to put distractions in questions or overstate them to make them harder than they are. Aside from that ACt math is extremely redundant. They can’t put harder questions on one test than another so they tend to retest the same skills but with different numbers ect. Practice problems are amazing, I did around 500 and admittedly that probably made the jump for me.

Just have confidence, however I just want to say you really have a good score and don’t need to worry about upping it. You are already above average test wise to penn. I would spend that study time either studying for SAT 2s drafting essays or furthering your EC/ Service experiences. Hope that helps

@CollegeCraze72 Wow, thank you so much! If you have any tips/study ideas to figure out the “formula” and understanding the last 10 questions that would be great.
