I have a 33 composite ACT and a 11 writing. I'm happy with the writing section and really don't want to take it again. However, I would like to retake the ACT. So if I improve my composite, will I be able to use my writing from the first time I took it if I submit both examinations?

There was another discussion about this on here a couple weeks ago, and the answer was no for most schools.

Yeah, check out the other discussion for some insight. Your best bet for figuring it out would be checking with the schools you intend to apply to. Overall, though, is retaking the writing section that bad? It's only an extra half hour in time, a little more money, and if you already scored an 11, you know exactly what you need to do to achieve the same score, if not better, imho.

I don't agree with your summary of that thread. Most schools won't let you mix & match test scores to calculate a new composite, but most of them WILL take your highest composite from one test date and your writing scores from another.

That said, I'd try for the 12.

haha i suppose another 30 mins wouldn't kill me. and if most will mix and match writing and composites i should be alright even if i don't achieve an 11 or 12 this time.

Try for the 12 i shall.

Thanks guys.

What if you already have a 12 on the writing portion? It would be counterintuitive for me to take it again.

rocket,
Yeah, unless you know one of the schools you want to apply to will only consider a composite taken at the same time as writing--which, I think, is unusual.

i think texas takes the highest subsections
