***ACT October 2013 Thread***

Score went up 2 points from September ACT, didn’t really do any extra studying, think it’s just because this test center had larger tables so I didn’t keep dropping stuff.

September ACT
Composite: 32
English: 29
Math: 35
Reading: 33
Science: 32

October ACT
Composite: 34
English: 32
Math: 35
Reading: 34
Science: 36(woot!)

My preparation for this was the red book, I did a total of 3 practice tests before my October ACT. However, I’ve taken/taking all 3 AP Sciences (Bio Chem PhysC) and AP Calculus BC, which probably explains my higher than average Math and Science scores.

I really wish the ACT didn’t round, so they could better differentiate between people.

TOO HAPPY. First time taking a standardized test, and passed my goal of 34. Never have to take that again :)

Arkansas, this is her first time taking it officially. She took a practice in her bedroom 2 months ago and got a 29. Then she had 4 tutoring sessions. She wants to go to Dartmouth or Georgetown and is a junior.

36 composite somehow!!!
36 english
34 math
36 reading
36 science

36!!!

36 e
36 m

Congratz on the 36s TheArtistic and glladgrat!

Any tips for others who are trying to improve their scores? (Test books, strategies, etc.)

I would suggest the red book, the one with the real tests in it. Those are the only ones that I think make any sense to study.

Arkansas: It’s my junior year and I haven’t taken the test before. I’m hoping to apply to Ivy Leagues (Columbia,Yale, etc.), Boston University, NYU, Georgetown, John Hopkins, and Wellesley.

essai23: All I used was the Red Book, Boost Your Score! CD, and a couple of free diagnostics online. First shot through, 36.

Congratz to you too Buggie111!

Thank you for both yours and TheArtistics’ tips. I need a 32+ on the next ACT and I’ve been studying hard.

Looks like “The Real ACT” is the way to go. If you think of any more tips, just let me know.

Math has been my weak point. I can’t get higher than a 28 in Math and I really have been studying hard.

Fcallicote:
Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ve got time to get your score up, and with perseverance and hard work, I’m sure you will. I’ve known MANY who started at 30 and ended up at 36. MANY. Keep your eyes on the prize and keep moving forward.

Living61:
A 31 for the first-time out is nothing to be ashamed of. I’ve known many who started lower and ended up at 34-36 within 3-4 test cycles. Personally, I would definitely have her take December, and even some time with a tutor (whose good, of course). I would continue to shoot for February too though. Cover all the bases. For some, steady progress over several test cycles is the route.

My account still says registered?!??!? I am sure I filled out all of the info correct and other people from my location have got their tests. What could be wrong with my test, and will it be long before I get my scores?

How long does it take for the writing scores to come out? And for the schools to receive your scores?

Is it bad I didn’t get my scores back and kids who were in same room as me did? Should I be concerned. or wait till december 30th to freak out?

Composite: 30

English: 32

Nontraditional student here. Did better than I thought I would, and MUCH better than the 26 I got back in high school 10 years ago!

Dang^^^^^^

Composite: 33

First time through but my goal is a 34+. Any tips for science or reading?
