ACT offered during school day? is it official?

My friend's school is requiring the entire Junior class to take the ACT on a Tuesday during March. Apparently the school district is funding the test for everyone? I've never heard of anything like this. Will this test be an official ACT or just a mock ACT? Can it be used in college admissions?

This seems to be common, normally in the Midwest I believe. It is an official test and can be used for college admissions. HOWEVER, I have read that it does not include the writing portion and I have found that most (but not all) colleges want the ACT w/writing. So they will probably need to take it again.

my hs requires all junior to take the ACT every year. I was a junior last year and I took it. It was with writing. It can be used foe college admission.

I took it last year as a junior at my school. My district payed for it, and we took the essay component. It was very official, if I may say so myself. ;)

P.S. It was in Florida.

My S’s school also gives the ACT during school as part of the state’s standard testing. However, they decided to drop the writing portion to save money, so it doesn’t do him any good for admissions as most schools want the version with writing. Waste of time in my opinion. It would have been nice to allow us to “upgrade” to the writing version for an extra charge.

Our state, Illinois, stopped giving the writing portion to save money 2 years ago. That didn’t go over so well. This year they are adding back the writing portion.
