ACT on-line prep: is it any good?

I am considering signing my son up for the ACT on-line prep ($19.95). Seems it would be about the same price as some practice books. He would have access for a year.

Has anyone used this program? Comments please!

Thanks so much.

I never used it but I do know that sparknotes has a great review on English. It was great for me at least. It is basically the same as PR except with a little more info.

If your son is struggling with English have him look at that section on Sparknotes, it should help.

If you want 2 real tests from the ACT, buy it... but if you are looking for review... well... let's just say look into something else.

(the tests are ok.... it's harder than normal because it's online and the texts are harder to read)

My school provides this service for free (they bought access for the whole school)... so tell him to ask his guidance office... you never know if they provide free ACT prep.

If he needs a lot of prep then I'd say the Online Prep program is not good. Its review for the ACT is not good at all. However, if he is very independent and just needs some practice tests to prepare, then by all means purchase it.

I used it mainly for the tests and I got a 30 on the December ACT.

We signed my daughter up for it a couple of years and she thought it was rubbish. She felt like she really wasted the time she spent on it before she gave up on it and went back to using the prep books (Princeton Review and Real ACT).

Now she had taken the ACT a couple of times already so was familiar with the ACT layout so I don't know if it would be helpful to someone completely new to the ACT. And she was looking for prep to help her raise her score to a 32+ from a 31 for a particular scholarship. So it might be helpful to an ACT newbie. But she found the whole layout of it rather juvenile (like some of those computer games we buy them when they are younger thinking they somehow won't know they are 'educational'). Of course they may have changed the program in 2 years.
