ACT or SAT scores? Both?

Hello!

For admissions to any UC schools, would they prefer the ACT or SAT scores?
I did pretty terribly on the ACT and was wondering if I could just submit my higher than average SAT score when applying.

Which do they favor more?

UC’s have no preference for either the SAT or ACT, but they require you to send all scores. You can just submit all your SAT scores, if taken more than once.

So I can just send them all of my SAT scores? No need for the ACTs? I’m still debating on whether I should study and retake my ACTS for the submission.

Yes, just send one or the other. They take the highest score from a single sitting.

Many students use a 3 or better in their AP English exam to satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement. But if you don’t have that, you may want to use a 30 or better on the ACT English Language Arts (combined English, Reading and Writing) score to be exempted from the Analytical Writing Placement Exam. If so, you need to send it to them so they will have it before April 1 of your senior year.

A 680 or better in Writing on the old SAT also satisfies this requirement.

“The requirement can also be met by earning a grade of C or higher in an acceptable English composition course offered by a college or university.”
I will be taking College English at a community college offered at my High School, is this enough to satisfy the requirement? Apologies, I am fairly new to these things!

It seems as if it would satisfy the requirement, assuming it is worth at least 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits, but I guess you would have to ask the UC’s that you apply to in order to be sure. I think the UC has to receive your college transcript for the course before April 1 of senior year in order for you to be exempt from taking the placement test.
