ACT or SAT Subject Tests?

Alright, I wish to attend Boston University. They require the SAT and ACT or 2 subject tests. My guidance counselor suggested that I take the ACT over 2 SAT subject tests. However, I score much better on the math section in any standardized test, so for me it makes more sense to take the subject tests (Math level 1 and level 2). Taking the ACT will save me a test date rather than having to worry about rushing two test dates (I am a junior and I want to apply for early decision for next fall). But I will most likely score better on the subject tests.

I have never taken the ACT or Subject Tests. What do you recommend? Please explain pros and cons. Thanks! :)

The wording is actually:

http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/freshman/application-instructions/

Math 1 and 2 will usually NOT be considered 2 different Subject tests as they are just two different levels of math.

Up to 3 Subject tests can be taken at the same sitting, and many students take 2, so I’m not sure why it will take an extra test date compared to the ACT.

How have you done on the SAT? That will give you some indication about the ACT.

Are you taking pre-Calc or the corresponding AP courses to the Subject tests that you plan to take?

Yes I’m taking pre-calc and I currently have an A in that class. I didn’t know you could take more than one SAT subject test in one sitting, that is great news. On the SAT, I got:

Reading: 620
Math: 700
Writing: 650

Here’s what made me wonder about the ACT or SAT Subject tests:

[Program Requirements for Freshman Applicants Undergraduate Admissions | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/freshman/program-requirements/)

Look on the row for College of Arts and Sciences, “SAT and Two SAT Subject Tests or ACT (with Writing Test)”.

So what do you recommend that I do?

My problem was not with your question of choosing between ACT or 2 Subject tests, but rather your wording in the OP which implied you needed SAT & ACT ** or ** 2 Subject tests (which no colleges require).

Your 1970 is pretty close to the 75% level at BU of 2050.

Math 2 is a good test for you to take, but be sure to look at the CBs information and practice questions on that test, as you will need to review some older math to be able to work quickly on the test.

Are you taking any classes currently that would prepare you for a second Subject test, an AP science, AP USH, etc.? If so, AP tests are more difficult than Subject tests, so you shouldn’t have to do any extra studying for it, and that might make the Subject tests a better option than prepping for the ACT.
