Daughter is taking SAT for the third time in October. She has a 35 ACT with a 36 in the math section. She has a 760 chem and 750 math 2. What SAT 1 would she need to consider submitting? In other words, should she just stick with the ACT unless she receives a 2300+ ?

…Seriously? Go let her do some extracurriculars. 3x SAT + 35 ACT is overkill. A 35 overall with 36 in math gets her beyond the threshold of worry in regards to standardized testing. The 3x SAT just looks like she is obsessed with taking the test or something along those lines. She should at this point be trying to get more awards and thrive in clubs/sports she enjoys to show that she is multi-dimensional.

Been there, done that . Been to state twice in one sport, varsity lettered in two. Academic team, Latin club etc…Not my decision and I tried to talk her out of it. She took the first SAT as a freshman for a talent search so was totally unprepared.

Hooray for her then. Tell her that it’s detrimental for her to continue taking the SAT I at this point.

To be fair, you did ask whether she should be sticking with the ACT or not, and I’m telling you right now that she should stop bothering with the SAT I and just stick with her perfectly fine ACT score. Caltech accepts ACT scores, and she is well within the range of people accepted in regards to that statistic. The 2300+ is pointless unless she wants to have bragging rights to this sort of stuff (which is frowned upon anyway on campus anyway). It doesn’t really matter that she didn’t perform as well as she would like on the SAT because at worst admissions would think that she was not suited for the SAT and instead demonstrated her skills on the ACT. Frankly, anything above a 2250 is in a safe range past which she should focus on other aspects of her college application.

Your reaction at this point should be- Screw it!
