ACT or SAT

Hey guys so I’m a junior in high school looking to apply as an animal science major at Cal Poly Pomona. I was looking at CPP’s stats and like 95% of the applicants submit SAT scores over ACT scores, and this is a bit concerning to me. You see, I took the PSAT and got a 1700 and I have no idea how because I honestly felt like that test was a bloodbath for me and I don’t foresee me doing any better on it if I retake the real SAT. Or at least, I wouldn’t be getting any astonishing scores to say the least. However, I’ve been doing practice ACT tests online for the past month and I’m nailing it and I’m pretty sure w some work I could maybe even crack a 30 on it- the test is just that much easier for me.

I’m just worried that since almost everyone applying to CPP submits SAT scores that by only submitting an ACT score it could very well hurt me. I’m aware that all colleges accept ACT scores, but I’ve heard that some prefer SAT?? I plan to take the ACT either way as I’m already registered to take it in April but I’m just wondering if I should be planning to also take the SAT- I really don’t want to hurt my admissions chances.

Thank you!

Oh by the way when I said 1700 I meant 170, sorry

I’m guessing the reason why so many students submit the SAT rather than the ACT is that most students applying are from California or states where the SAT is more common. It does not mean that admissions has a strong preference for the SAT. Take both tests and then focus on whichever you do better on

Both my son’s submitted only the ACT when they applied within the last 2 years. Both were also easily accepted.

Just submit whichever score is better. We focus on the SAT here in CA, but that doesn’t mean we think the ACT is any easier. The college is well aware of both, so submit the better score

I got into CPP and CPSLO with only ACT scores.
