ACT or SAT?

Since i live in Illinois, i will be taking the ACT but i would rather take the SAT. Can i take both? and if so, is it my choice as to which score gets submitted as part of my application? i feel that i can do better with the subjects on the SAT because i am better at reading and writing vs science. Bottom line; does where i live automatically choose which test score i submit?

you can choose to send whichever test score you want.

Take both and see which comes out higher. Every college now accepts either. And don’t assume you won’t do well on the ACT science section. It doesn’t require much actual knowledge of science. Mostly it’s about interpreting and making inferences from graphs and data tables.

Make sure you take the ACT with writing. In the event that statistically your ACT is more favorable than your SAT many colleges will want the writing component. Don’t send any scores before you see them. The fee to send them later is small and should you do significantly better on one format than the other you’ll feel better knowing you put only your best score for consideration. Also keep in mind, not all schools superscore the ACT.
Good luck! You may be surprised which test you do better on.

Personally I would take both to see whichever score is better. ACT is a lot easier to improve on than SAT, and I’m saying this from experience. If you have time over the summer to study for the ACT it’s very easy to get a decent score. The only additional subject required on the ACT that the SAT doesn’t have is science and frankly you only need to know basic science to do well. All the information is given to you in the passages and it’s a matter of whether or not you can read well and decipher graphs and tables.
