I want to improve my ACT scores from the June one I took ( I got a composition of 26) and I have been taking ACT prep class over the summer!! I know practice is the key to improvement so I have been practicing!! The diagnostic test I took from the PR prep course I got a 27(without any PR's strategies) and then the 2nd practice test I got a 25 (using PR's strategies) then the third practice test I got a 26... I'll get different sub scores each time!!!! For English I got 27 on the first diagnostic Test and 26(with strategies) on the second one and then another 26(with strategies). For math I got a 29 on the first and 26 on the second and 31 on the third ( I was able to finish the math section on my third practice test!). For reading I got 23 on the first and 24 on the second and 21 on the third (I couldn't finish!! I'll only finish the 3rd passage and start the 4th and that's when the time is called! I took a real ACT in June before the PR prep class and score a 26 on the reading!) for the science I got a 28 on the first diagnostic test for PR and 26 on the second and 25 on the third ( using PR's strategies).
I don't know!!!! It seems like taking practicing tests isn't working because I'll get scores similar to my real ACT score I took in June and i don't seem to be improving!! Does practicing help increase your scores!!?? Why am I getting different sub scores everytime? Does this happen to everybody?

In my opinion, practice ALWAYS helps. You not showing improvment could be related to a number of different reasons:
- You are just using the strategies and not understanding the BASIC concepts. You should to study grammar and math and start understanding how the problem can be solved rather than using strategies to solve it.
- You practice just to finish the exam. That is wrong you need to go back to the exam you finished and KNOW why did you make the mistake and not only see whats the mistake.
- Your mind is busy on something else when you are solving the exam.

REMEMBER PRACTICE ALWAYS HELPS.

Thanks!! I know the basic concepts but I just couldn’t finish! It’s just frustrating that I keep getting different sub scores and little improvement!

^^ You are welcome, you can always improve; dont listen to what people say about you cant improve, you already reached your limit, that is total nonsense. Improving can be difficult but not impossible; it is all about how much you are motivated and how much you are willing to achieve your goals.

I agree with practice. You may want to google “preparing for the act” and you should be able to find pdf files of actual retired ACT tests that are now available for practice.
Here is the current one: http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/preparing.pdf
and here is one from 2008-2009: http://www.kuspuk.org/moodle/file.php?file=%2F1%2Fpreparing.pdf

Try a practice book! Barron’s is a good one. Or Princeton Review. The people above are right; practice really does help! :)

Good luck. (:

Thanks guys!!
