ACT prep books? Higher Scoring & General Review

I was looking through old similar threads, but couldn’t find exactly what I wanted. So basically my ACT prep plan is to do loads of practice tests (official practice tests from online and the red book) since my biggest problem is unfamiliarity with the test/silly mistakes (currently at a 33 from my first practice test), but I want to also work through a prepbook that just would generally help prepare? Just kind of general prepping stuff? I’ve heard mixed things about Princeton’s Cracking the ACT especially for top scorers, but, on the other hand, I’m not a big fan of the idea of Barron’s 36 being harder than the test? I want something on level that goes over the test I guess? Any input on those two or something with that kind of comprehensive prep?

Anyways, any recommendations would be so super appreciated especially from anyone who used a prepbook to generally increase their score from an already pretty good score! Thanks!!

I think the Black Book is the best for what you’re asking for… What are your scores on each test? Then we could discuss maybe some weak subjects and specific books for that.

The regular Barron’s ACT book has a good overview of the strategies, IMHO.

If you need to focus on a particular section –
Erica Meltzer’s books are the gold standard for English and Reading.
There is only one ACT Science book out there (For the Love of ACT Science) but it is good.

I have no suggestion for the math as my kid made 36 on both practice and real test as a side effect of math level 2 subject test prep.
